Altar Servers: Grades 3 and Higher

Dear Parents and Families,

If your son or daughter is in the 3rd grade to high school, we appeal to you to strongly encourage them to become altar servers at St. Clare of Assisi Parish. It is an opportunity to be of service to others, to grow in respect and reverence for the things of God, and become attentive to Jesus speaking in their hearts.

Altar Servers take responsibility for freeing the presider (priest) from various details so he may give full attention to presiding. They assist with the Roman Missal (big red book of priest's prayers), ritual binders (with other items for Mass) and help at the altar taking care of the candles, cross, incense, sacred vessels, wine, water and altar bells with reverence.

The commitment involves one or two Masses per month, and wanting to be an example that can bring others closer to God, but you will find it can also be a means to draw your family closer to each other.  Through you, it is Jesus who invites your family to hear His call and follow Him – this applies to any walk in life.

“Only a life spent in the service of others is a life worth living.”  –Albert Einstein
