Deaf Community

We normally have interpreters at 9:00AM Sunday Mass every week. Deaf persons and their loved ones are encouraged to sit near the interpreter on the right hand side section near the statue of the Blessed Mother holding the Child Jesus. The interpreter position is at the base of the steps and you will have a good view of the interpreter, the priest, readers and others serving during the Mass.

Our interpreters are Karen and Stephanie who take alternating weeks. We are delighted that they are available to serve and to worship with us. They do not live in our community so unfortunately are not available for interpreting services for appointments with a priests. We would be happy to communicate with deaf persons by writing back and forth. Just let us contact our office so that we can set an appointment time.

Interpreters use American Sign Language to interpret the music, prayers of the Mass, Bible readings, homily and announcements.  We encourage you to sign the people's responses such as the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Our Father and all the other responses including the music. Your full participation helps the hearing community more fully appreciate your presence.  We have included eight YouTube videos of the sections of the Mass below for all of us to be more familiar with the Holy Mass as it is prayed in Sign Language.

You can connect to our Deaf Community on "
Flocknote" to receive newsletters and messages by email and/or text messages. You can set your own preferences and the way you wish to be informed. Sign up to any of the many activity groups or even get inspirational messages (only if you sign up to that group).  We won't send you anything you do not want. You can change your preferences any time you want to join or unsubscribe to groups.
