Liturgy is the Heart of Parish Life

Liturgy is the Heart of of parish life.  Catholics are a Christ-centered community whose high point of life is the Sacred Liturgy. The Holy Mass is the summit of our faith life and the fountain from which we draw our strength. We say that Sunday Mass is a obligation but it is more than that. It is a privilege to be present at the Celebration of the Eucharist because it is here that Jesus makes himself present to us in a most singular way. We hear the word of God which moves us toward the altar of sacrifice and praise.  Jesus said that we must eat his body and drink his blood.  We know that sounds strange, but we also know what the Church has always believed from the beginning, that once the bread and wine have been consecrated, they become the Glorious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. given for the life of the world. The Holy Mass is not a repetition of a biblical story, as if some sort of drama, but rather, it is an actual participation in the very sacrifice of Christ through the days of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday. It is as it were, an extension through time and space to this very time in which we now live. For Christ does not die over and over again on the cross or rise repeatedly. He died and rose once for all.
